Singer Information

Made of Star Stuff Theatre Collective is looking for singers interested in participating in our Community Sing Through project.

The idea for this project came from the realization that so many of our talented friends no longer have the time to perform musical theater. Our project is designed to get talented and busy people back to performing!

How it works!

Titanic - May 22nd & 23rd, 2025

There are three ways to participate as a singer in the MOSS Community Sing Through: in the choir only, as a “Featured Soloist”, or as a “Ensemble Soloist”.

The Choir

The choir will sing all full-group numbers, as well as in the background in support of soloists. Anyone who would like to join the choir is welcome with no audition required!

Featured Soloists

Featured soloists will sing for one of the principal characters (The Captain, Andrews, Bride, Alice, the Kates, Etc.). If you would like to be considered for a featured solo, please provide short audition video. This could be a video of you singing from a previous audition/performance, or you are welcome to sing a song from Hunchback. Depending on number of submissions we may split principal roles between multiple performers. All featured soloist will be required to be in the choir as well.

Ensemble Soloists

If you aren't ready for or interested in a featured solo, Titanic has many smaller solo's! These "ensemble solos" may be as short as a single line (a few seconds) or as long as a multiple measures (think more like 30 seconds). No video submission is required, but sending us a short audition video will help us to place you in the right solo line.

While we will do our absolute best to give a solo to everyone who would like one, however a solo it is not guaranteed. All ensemble soloist will be required to be in the choir as well.

Sign ups will open soon and run through April 15th!

FAQ

What is The Community Sing Through?

The Community Sing Through is an event where we learn the music for an entire show in 1.5 days culminating with a sitzprobe with a full orchestra after the second day of rehearsal. Sitzprobe is a German word which means "seated rehearsal" and is a traditional theater term for a un-staged sing-through of the entire score. The upcoming performance will be Titanic. We won’t be selling tickets or advertising the performance. The goal of the sing through is to learn and perform a musical theatre piece purely for the love of performing!

When and where is the community Sing Through?

The Community Sing Through will be May 22nd & 23rd at the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia, 2125 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

Let’s Talk Money!

Made of Star Stuff Theatre Collective is a non-profit theatre company and this project will use the “pay-what-you-can” model for all participants. There is absolutely no obligation to donate in order to participate, however, our costs include two meals, the performance rights, materials, and various other behind the scenes logistics. All staff for this event are volunteers and any additional funds will go toward future similar events! We are suggesting a donation of $50, however, is truly only a suggested donation amount. Donating more or less is totally up to you and is appreciated.

Is there a schedule?

Short answer is, we’re working on it! The dates are locked in, May 22nd & 23rd, 2025. We are working on exact call times but generally, we ask our participants to hold open Friday, May 22nd from 7:00 - 10:00 and Saturday, May 23rd from 10:00-9:00. Friday’s rehearsal will likely not include all performers, but expect to be with us all day Saturday. If you are unavailable on May 22nd, please indicate this on your submission form and we should be able to accommodate you. However, Saturday, May 23rd is a mandatory rehearsal. Saturday meals will be provided and the final performance will be May 23rd from 7:00-9:00.

How much preparation will be required?

We will be working fast, so any prep ahead of time will make your day that much easier and more fun. We hope to send out materials roughly 6-8 weeks in advance. We would expect singer to, at a minimum, listen to the show at home and be familiar with it prior to arrival.
